About this listen

Kids can be so cruel.
They'll call you names.
Hurt your feelings.
Push you to your death.

In the garden of an abandoned house, Luke Connolly lies broken, dead. The night before, he and his friends partied inside. Nobody fought, everybody else went home safely. And yet, Luke was raped and pushed to his death. His alleged attacker is now in custody.

DCI Tom Reynolds is receiving the biggest promotion of his career when a colleague asks him to look at the Connolly case, believing it's not as cut and dried as local investigators have made out. And as Tom begins to examine the world Connolly and his upper class friends inhabited, the privilege and protection afforded to them, he too realises something.

In this place, people cover up for each other. Even when it comes to murder.

I enjoy the Tom Reynolds books probably more for the "team" news than the cases. They are such a well defined set of people that one gets very involved with them and their lives outside work. Yes - I can recommend this one!

Very good, as usual but it felt a bit too long

Enjoyed the story. Full of interesting characters. Excellent narration. I can usually guess the guilty party but in this book I had no idea of what the end would be.

kept me guessing to the end

Enjoyed this book. The main characters and plot were well crafted and the narration excellent. I have a big criticism however. The story features some LGBT characters and the author seemed to be under the illusion that in terms of their sexuality, they had to be either gay or straight. The concept of someone possibly being bisexual or pansexual seemed lost on the writer and this was both irritating and distracting.

Well-crafted enjoyable listen

I haven’t listened to one of Jo Spain’s book that I have been disappointed with but for me this one has was the icing on the cake. The conclusion came as a complete surprise.

I love Alice McMahon’s narration too. She captures my imagination and I am sure she would do the same for anybody.

If you want a “who did it” story but keep changing your mind throughout, this is the book for you. Worthy of five stars

This was recommended to me by my sister, who said it was the best audio she had listened to.
For me, it wasn't the best one, it was definitely up there though.

Definitely recommend

Not quite good enough for 5 stars, particularly as I guessed who did it, but gripping and well-written nonetheless. The characters were well-crafted and believable.

Enjoyable crime novel
