About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Have you ever found yourself struggling with information overload?
Have you ever felt both overworked and underutilised?
Do you ever feel busy but not productive?
If you answered yes to any of these, the way out is to become an essentialist.
In Essentialism, Greg McKeown, CEO of a leadership and strategy agency in Silicon Valley who has run courses at Apple, Google and Facebook, shows you how to achieve what he calls the disciplined pursuit of less. Being an essentialist is about a disciplined way of thinking. It means challenging the core assumptions of "we can have it all" and "I have to do everything" and replacing them with the pursuit of "the right thing in the right way at the right time".
By applying a more selective criteria for what is essential, the pursuit of less allows us to regain control of our own choices so we can channel our time, energy and effort into making the highest possible contribution toward the goals and activities that matter.
Using the experience and insight of working with the leaders of the most innovative companies and organisations in the world, McKeown shows you how to put Essentialism into practice in your own life, so you, too, can achieve something great.

In the audio format The narrator has a clear and well measured tone that allows you to focus on the content. Not too boring, not overexcited and no sidelines, off book commentary or colourful language… appropriately… just the essential facts.
As a regular reader of business and productivity manuals I can see that this book brings together a variety of ideas snd sources on how to get more done. But, even though I’ve heard them before I was not uninterested in hearing how this author fits them into his essentialist theory. And there was no major sales patter or worksheets to follow, just simple and concise information and options for taking a more conscious approach to tackling life. There was maybe nothing new or fantastic in what was being proposed but it was set out in such a way that it reached me in a clearer and more inspirational way than I’ve found in other places.
What was most impressive was the applicability of the essentialist way in life in general. With toxic and demanding people in your life it’s not always easy to prioritise without feeling guilty and I found this book a support in thinking that there are good and solid reasons why I might opt to look after my own interests rather than bend to the path of least resistance.
For the first time with an audiobook I will be listening again, immediately, not because I misunderstood, need clarification or need to take notes, but simply because I need to hear it repeated so I can fix my mind on becoming more essentialist right now. I feel I will revisit this book again in future and I will certainly be recommending it to friends
